Celebrating craftsmanship: Anglican art and architecture tour

Tour of the interior and exterior architecture of this iconic church.

May 18, 2018
Event Date2018-05-18T18:00:00 - 2018-05-18T19:00:00

Sharpen your observation skills and study the aesthetic components of the Old North Church while celebrating the craftsmanship involved in building and creating this national icon.

Join us for a highly participatory experience examining the exterior and interior architecture, as well as three fine art pieces inside the church, including 17th century wooden Baroque angels and an altar painting by John Ritto Penniman. Visit the second floor gallery of the church, see the organ up close, and stand on the altar while you consider the visual elements within the context of the 18th and 19th centuries and contemplate the labor and skill involved. There's always more than meets the eye!

Disclaimer: This tour requires climbing and descending one flight of steep, narrow stairs to the second floor gallery of the church.

The festival began as, and still is, a celebration of what can be accomplished when people of all traditions, cultures, ages, and beliefs come together. The event features four stages that include:

  • music and dance performances
  • popular theater
  • the Youth Stage, and
  • story telling for all ages.

In addition to performances, the festival features more than 50 craft, nonprofit, and food vendors. The festival is anchored by a massive parade (with branches that start in Jamaica Plain Center and Roxbury) with several thousand people marching. A great many individuals, local artists, community groups, and schools join forces every year to create this unique community collaboration.
