Honoring Earth Day

This week, the Council honored the celebration of Earth Day, recognized annually on April 22. Earth Day provides people all over the world time to appreciate the planet, but is also a reminder that climate change, pollution, habitat loss, and environmental injustice are threats to just and livable communities. While only one day a year, Earth Day inspires grassroots movements, preservation efforts, and public policies year-round.

Boston is a leader for climate resilience efforts and works across sectors, agencies, and departments to protect the land that it occupies. Projects like Climate Ready Boston aim to strengthen Boston’s infrastructure, protect communities, and preserve natural resources through sustainable design and nature-based solutions. Boston is working to expand climate justice throughout the city, especially in at-risk areas such as Chinatown, East Boston, and Dorchester. This resolution is part of a larger dedication to the planet, commitment to the environment, and the importance of protecting and preserving the Earth for generations to come.
