Project Goals
Brian J Honan Apartments is a preservation proposal from Allston Brighton CDC that will combine badly-needed physical repairs with deep energy retrofit measures to significantly reduce the energy consumption and carbon emissions footprint of the property. There are nine townhouse-style buildings at the property, in varying sizes and with 50 total units spanning one to three bedrooms
each. The building exteriors have a distinctive style that the development team is working to preserve where possible. When the buildings were constructed in 2005, two factors combined such that there has been significant physical deterioration: quality lumber was not available in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and Hardie Plank siding was used when the product was still in its earliest form. As a result of these envelope failures, the property is experiencing water infiltration and rotting of sheathing and
framing, requiring very costly annual repairs.
