McArdle Bridge (Meridian Street) Construction Advisory

The City of Boston conducts regular proactive maintenance to ensure that our bridges remain safe and functional. As part of this program, we will be making repairs to the McArdle Bridge that connects the neighborhoods of East Boston and Chelsea beginning the week of May 18.

Prior to the start of construction, our contractor will block off the area with barrels and barriers to establish a safe work zone. Variable Message Boards will be deployed to notify commuters of the upcoming work so they can plan their travel accordingly.

Once repairs begin, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction, and traffic signals will function normally on both sides of the bridge. To allow pedestrians safe access to cross the structure, one sidewalk will remain open and clearly marked for the duration of the project.

Pending any inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, we expect the work to last approximately 3-months.
