Building carbon policy open house #4

The City of Boston is developing a new policy to cut carbon pollution from large buildings.

February 23, 2021
2021-02-23T18:00:00 - 2021-02-23T19:30:00

This meeting is the fourth in our series of open houses. During this meeting, we will present the draft policy, recap the process that informed its design, and give our community members an opportunity to provide feedback.

Large buildings in Boston are the biggest emitters of carbon pollution and they also represent the buildings that have the largest opportunity to cut their carbon emissions. This pollution comes from the oil and gas we burn to heat and power our homes and offices.

We're developing this policy as part of the implementation of Strategy #5 in the 2019 Climate Action Plan Update: Develop a carbon emissions performance standard to decarbonize existing large buildings. Learn more about our work to reduce emissions.

In the first open house in July, we shared some background on why we’re developing this new policy, defined what a performance standard is, laid out the process to develop it, and heard your questions, concerns, and ideas. In the second open house in September, we dove into the technical analysis and worked through some of the questions you shared in July. During the third open house, we shared preliminary policy elements under consideration and sought your feedback.

You can view the recording, slides, and breakout discussion notes from previous meetings on our project page.

Interpretation and translation services are available to you at no cost. If you need them, please contact us at katherine.eshel@boston.gov by Friday, February 19, 2021.
